You learn something new every day I have loved Labrinth ever since I was a little girl one of the earliest films of my childhood that I remember being introduced to and how I became a huge David Bowie fan and I never knew until I saw TikTok the other day that Sarah's mother didn't die she left her dad for her acting partner who is pictured with her in those newsclippings that Sarah has on her vanity mirror and I never even realized and put it together that it's David Bowie in those pictures with her mother and that Jeris is supposed to be The like her mothers love her boyfriend and it's supposed to be this would you do what your mother did would you be tempted by someone promising you all of these things if you leave your family and ultimately at the end Sarah says no I'm not going to do that I would not sacrifice the family that I love for some dude who is claiming to promise me all these things who probably isn't going to follow through with them in the end or whatever and that is why she in her imagination chooses her mothers lover because he is the villain in her own story And it's not actually Toby it's not actually her stepmother it is the man that was her mothers acting partner that she ran away with and I never knew that and I feel so like it's like

It's like a the greatest thing that's Epiphany this realization because it does make sense and really even as an adult I thought you know the whole world that Sarah dreamed up really was real especially since like all of the characters appear in her bedroom like first they appear in the mirror and then they appear in the bedroom and she has a dance party with them but essentially it is her imagination you think about it now and it's her connection to her childhood

And it's also about growing up it's a coming of age story and how she is learning to make this very adult decision for herself would you leave your family would you leave your husband would you leave your child and she's ultimately saying no she wouldn't do it her mother did and that's why she takes those pictures of her mother and her mother is a lover it off her dresser because she's like I don't want that I will I'm not going to be like her I'm not gonna do that to my family

But yet she still maintains her connection to her childhood, which is important too, because she is still a child. Just because she's a teenager it doesn't mean she's a full grown adult. And even when you're a full grown adult you should still have that attachment to your childhood because that informs how you are going to be as an adult. know.

When we look at our childhood we can see the things that made us the most happy in the things that made us the most sad and when we're in adult we can decide who are we going to be based off of things are we going to want to encourage the things that made us happy and pass those on and are we not going to make the same mistakes as people made when we were kids to us like Sarah's mother so Those are good things to always remember

So Sarah is always going to love theater and literature and stories and fairytales but she's also at the same time not going to make the same decision that her mother did to leave her family behind for some guy that put the moves on or her acting partner Yep that was a good idea I learned a lot
