My realization is that people aren't inherently good like I thought they were. There are a lot of bad people in the world who pretend to be good and will take advantage of your goodness if you let them.

Yes, absolutely. And learning that as soon as you learned it was the perfect time to learn that, because there are a lot of people who just don't care and will do anything to secure their spot and whatever they're trying to get themselves into.
