I woke up this morning to a text from talk to me technologies which is the company that is supplying my sons AAC device what an AAC device is if you don't know it's a communication device it's about the size of an iPad mini and it is solely for the purpose of communication there's no games on it or anything there is buttons that are basically words like the whole English language is on this device so yes there's a lot of words in the English language and there are a lot of buttons to learn on this device so it is a little bit confusing but he has been working with it at his speech sessions for nine months and he can make basic statements and communicate basic needs using this device I am so excited we are about to get one for at home we've been trying to get one since like October or November and it just keeps getting pushed back for one reason or another and it has finally been shipped I am so thrilled because right now my son is 3 1/2 he doesn't have any words and he communicates by pointing hand leading he does a few signs for sign language but he understands language very well he can follow verbal directions he's a good listener but he just physically I cannot form the sounds to make words So this device is going to be life-changing for him I mean he is now going to be able to communicate his thoughts his thoughts to me and his family and his teachers and it just makes me tear up thinking about it because he has not had a way to communicate his own thoughts and feelings up to this point I am just so excited
