I would say I started cooking around 18 or 19. My mother, her parents didn't know how to cook, so she learned basically on her own, and she was very particular on who was in the kitchen and helping with what. So I was shown how to cook, but I didn't actually get to cook cook. So I started around 18, 19, you know what I'm saying.

And see, I feel like I'm kind of like your mother. I'm very picky who's in my kitchen, the good energy that I want while I'm in my kitchen. But I do have one little boy. He's very curious. And actually the only time he stays calm and not so wiggly and not so jumpy, you know, is when he's in the kitchen. So he's the only one that's allowed in my kitchen. But yeah, no, stay in my kitchen. Stay in my kitchen. I'm gonna teach you. I don't know how I'm gonna teach you if you don't come in my kitchen, but stay in my kitchen.

Oh this is so adorable. For me, I think I was in my teens, probably like 14 or 15. My mother gave me a whole chicken and wanted me to clean it, cut it up, season it, all of that. I was like, ew, I don't want to touch this. I was like, ew, this is slimy. I don't want to touch this. No.

Isn't this adorable? You know, my heart was like, oh my God, I gotta be, I wanna be this kind of mama, but then I was like, I ain't got the patience. But, yeah, um, that was one of the first cooking lessons they gave me when I went to the professional class. It's how to cook a whole chicken, break a whole chicken down, how many ways to use a whole chicken. It is gross. I really do not like touching raw meat, girl. So, I understand. That's nasty. Mm-mm. Shout out to you for that.

I didn't learn how to cook till I was a teenager because you know my mom always cooked for me and I'm definitely doing the same for my kids. I don't let my kids cook right now. I mean I'm going to teach them yes once they get a little older but right now I cook their meals you know it's me.

My mama had me in the kitchen early and my daddy taught me how to grill early, so being in a big family household like I grew up in, you're going to have to fend for yourself some nights. So either you know how to cook, or you're going to be dependent on somebody else to fix your food. And my sisters couldn't cook worth a damn, so yeah, I learned from my mama and my daddy real early.

Okay so my mom never taught me how to cook but around the holidays she would send me to my grandma's and probably when I was like old enough to you know help my grandma out around the house probably like 10, 9, 10, 11 ish and she would teach me how to bake but I didn't learn how to cook until I was like in my teens and once again my grandma taught me not my mom.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I definitely was baking first before I was cooking. I even had an Easy-Bake Oven. So I definitely was baking first before I was stove top mixing it up. Shout out to that.

But no, for real, I just thought this was so beautiful, like, okay, she got them cooking food food, healthy food, okay? Not chicken nuggets and fries, not hot dogs, but food. I was so proud of Ace, he's such a picky eater, and he started eating fish and broccoli and green beans and salad. Yeah, that stuff is exciting when they eat real food, come on. This is awesome. Thanks for coming by TBS.

I probably started cooking around like 8 or 9 years old. I would help my mom to cook because my mom used to be sick a lot. But Thanksgiving, full spread, was non-negotiable in my house. So by the time I was probably like 14, 15 or so, I was already doing full Thanksgiving. Not by myself, I was doing it with my mom. But all the chopping and stuff that she couldn't do.

Now Tami, you know I talk a lot on this, but like I was saying, all the chopping and stuff that she couldn't do, I was doing all of that. And then learning seasonings and balancing the flavors and stuff. My actual first major in college was culinary arts, but then they, one day it was like kitchen cleaning day and they wanted me to clean the grease traps. I ended up changing my major to accounting because they had me fucked up. Yeah. But I still cook.
