In honor of black history month and my profound love for figure skating today I wanna tell you about Maple Fairbanks a tree pioneer for black people and figure skating this is a person who taught herself how to skate and was later recognized and coached by a world renowned coach despite her true talent she was unable to join any figures getting clubs due to the color of her skin and that is a prerequisite for competing at nationals and ultimately the Olympics despite that she was able to headline shows and was later as of a coach where she went on to coach Olympic and world champions She is the first black person inducted in the US figure skating Hall of Fame
Wow, Lily, this was a great freaking Black History Month. I've never even heard of her. So I definitely will take a look and check out who Mabel actually was because this was a good one. Thanks, Lily.

Thank you Tammy I probably wouldn't have thought about posting about this if it hadn't been for you and Gratz talking about it this morning and about just talk about your passions and there are so many great black figure skaters and figure skating
In fact, the reason why I got into figure skating was seeing Debbie Thomas on TV when I was six years old. So I'm going to try to talk about black figure skaters in the days to come.
