The biggest myth that I think we've collectively bought into is the idea that 90% of the indigenous people of America died off through disease or whatever the case may be. I think that idea has led to so many identity crisis throughout the world, especially here for the Black Americans, so-called Black Americans. You know what I'm saying? It was a way to make indigenous people believe that they came from Africa. You know what I'm saying? Although what connects us is our African-ness, it's what gives us our humanity. So when I meet a person anywhere in the world, I understand, whether conscious or not, I understand that we're connected through our African-ness and it gives humanity through the planet. But the moment the Europeans came through in the 1500s, they broke that continuity and so everybody became strangers. You see? And so they started to switch people around into foreign places and call them different things based on who was colonized in the area, hence the English, Spanish, French. So these people divided the planet and it lost its humanity. So to become African is to give humanity back to the planet.
