okay hello so i'm going to be reading from book one of marcus aurelius's meditations um book one because there are many books in the book so i wanted to make a post before i um dive myself into doing a live discussion so number six i'll start with as i've already uh done one through five on my own time number six says style genetics so this is a a former person that he's uh acquired some knowledge from. Not to waste time on nonsense. Not to be taken in by conjurors and hoodoo artists with their talk about incantations and exorcism, and all the rest of it. Not to be obsessed with quail fighting or other crazies like that. To hear unwelcome truths, to hear unwelcome truths. So this is, now he's getting into what you should do. To practice philosophy So something that came to mind is when he talks of the crazies and not being carried away with incantations and exorcism. And I thought that it is easy to get excited or curious about certain practices that may be a little bit more, that may not be what we define as truly godlike and that they deviate from like religion or whatever is devotion. So I think that he's referring to practices such as those and kind of warning about how they have drawbacks. And the drawback is that they distract us from our ultimate devotion. So that's just one perspective.
