So earlier I was talking to someone about how much I love rom-com movies, like romantic comedies, and it seems to be a really popular answer. So I want to ask here, why do you think rom-coms romantic comedies are so popular? Because I can think of several reasons. Like, one, it's more on the lighthearted side, and you know, with all the craziness that's going on in today's world, I know people like an escape from reality, even if it's in their own dating relationships, and the obstacles they're trying to overcome. But also, I just find it to be inspirational for future dates that I want to do and whatnot. But yeah, very, very, very curious to hear your take on this.
Yeah, definitely fantasizing, romanticizing these movies and like implementing it into your own life or you know your own thought process is a very big thing that I keep seeing time and time again. And I just even said that to somebody else that I even draw inspiration from those movies and put them into my own life. And knock on wood, it's going pretty great. So it's nice to have them, but I always go back to the classics. I don't really watch any of the more recent stuff, if that makes sense.
I agree with your with your take on the light hardness but I also think that little people like watching romcoms because they want to see the movie in terms of like their own validation and insecurities or whether like if their own relationship I guess quirks can be seen on the screen and then how they relate that I like their own life and I feel like it would want to see that and I think if they do see that and that's kind of Mason over in like a I guess away they like it that's why they think it's funny and then that's why they enjoy them
You know, I really appreciate how you brought up insecurities and validation in this conversation because that is so true. And even though as much as I tell people comparison is a thief of joy, you just can't help it. especially in situations like that. So very, very good point. I really appreciate you bringing that up and I hope you're having a wonderful week.
I mean I don't mind a comedy side to him but when they come to the romance I don't know find a cringe but it's funny though don't get me twisted is Joe some of them are funny but some of them are just so Kranji but yeah I'm not really my taste
Oh yes, I totally agree with you that there are a lot of movies out there that are very cringy, especially ones that are focused on romance and, you know, not to bash on any recent movies, but I find the newer ones to be more like that than the classics or the older ones, you know. But yeah, you definitely bring up a good point right there.
It's funny that you mentioned this because I feel for me the older I get the more crunchy I find like the love aspects of these movies but obviously there are some classics that I still like to just say and have watched like over 10 plus times but I do think yeah for sure it's like the the lightness of them and like just escaping reality and like watching love is always beautiful if it's like a beautiful love story but I think it's like it's an easy movie to watch you don't I don't have to be too engaged, I think it's just...
I think it's just pretty calming for the mind to just watch that. And obviously, usually the plot is quite happy and lighthearted, apart from the obstacles, of course. But it usually turns out well in the end. So yeah, I think there's like those aspects that make it pretty comforting to watch them.
Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you that cringy movies, they're like as you get older you're like oh really? Like that's not great. So the moment I notice something that I'm streaming and I'm not liking it I obviously exit out and I try to find something new but I do agree with you on the classics like Pretty Woman or even something more Disney like Princess Diaries. They're just great ones to go back and look at time and time again. But yeah if you have any recommendations please send them over I would love to watch.
I also agree with you that it's much more lighthearted and it's calm and you know, you just know that love is gonna be in there somewhere, but also jokes. Because a genre I'm really not a fan of is like horror movies, like scary movies, and my sister loves them. I just find them absolutely atrocious. Like, I can't sit through one at all. And I just cannot handle the suspense. Like, my heart's beating so fast, like, I'm just on edge and I'm like, no, no, no, change it. I can't watch, you know? but i get it
Yeah I know for sure I think that the classics could be really great sometimes and I'd say like as for recommendations like one movie that I've always loved no matter age and whatnot is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I just love the vibe in that movie and yeah it's just a very cute movie to be fair and I would also say maybe like the notebook is a classic as well that's pretty good. There's probably more but I can't think of any other right now.
Yeah, no, I totally feel you on this. I can't watch horror movies or scary movies at all anymore I used to love them as a kid We're not like a kid but like a teenager and me and my friends would have like horror movie nights and we would like really enjoy it But at some point I just couldn't anymore like they're too scary and obviously like you kind of they kind of predictable like you know when it's gonna to jump but at the same time you always get equally scared. See, I just can't do them anymore either.
I think romantic comedy is popular because I am I don't know I just don't really have some people don't have that and I am do you know some people are different sizes also think I can give them some sense of you know like wild swans like oh do you know the rest of the year in ask WhatsApp audio
You're the first one to bring up fantasy because someone else on this thread was talking about validations and insecurities. Another was talking about how cringy these movies can be. But going back to what you said, I totally agree because I'm not gonna lie, even myself, I've used some movies as inspiration for my own love life and knock on wood, it's going pretty well. But yeah, I totally see where you're coming from.
You know, I think we all love the idea of love because we love what people make us feel. There haven't been really too many great romantic comedies these days though, So I wish we could get some more. The crazy stupid love was probably the last really good one.
I was just saying that to somebody else on this thread that the newer movies, you know, not to bash on anyone who was a fan of them. I just cannot get past them because of the dry jokes, the cringy romance, the over-repetitive plots. I just, I don't know. So if you have any really good recommendations for love movies or like rom-coms, whatever you want to call them, please send them my way. I'm very happy to watch
I would say because they're just so light, they're funny, they make you feel good. Like you feel good inside when you watch rom-coms and they're like the perfect balance between romance and comedy so it's not just like straight romance but there's definitely comedy in there so it's really funny and good.
