Some people do, yeah, but it’s honestly a really small % of the fandom. It’s not the fact that they’re dressed as animals though, it’s an anxiety thing. When we’re in the costumes it helps us be ourselves more, or just someone else entirely that we don’t get to be in our day to day lives. I have PTSD and a few other mental health issues from trauma, and I struggle with being social and going in public. The suit helps me because no one will know who I am, so I run around, make new friends.. 1/2

2/2? I get to dance, do karaoke, and other crazy stuff that I normally would just never do. The entire point of the fandom is to express yourself in a positive way, and make people smile. Even if they are laughing AT you… mission accomplished. I got a smile. :) We dress up as animals because we choose something that represents us! Not everyone in the furry fandom even dresses up as animals, some people dress up as robots that look like animals! It’s all about anthropomorphic characters. Hell, even a spiderman comes to the conventions every year. We are very open and accepting and the conventions revolve around making friends, having fun, and learning about comedy, public preforming, and other cool stuff. The media makes us look like a bunch of freaks, and yes we are weird, we dress up in these costumes, but we also don’t accept negativity in the fandom. You WILL get jumped or FBI raided if you are a pedophile, abuser, or anything terrible like that. We are very serious about these things and want to make the fandom as safe as possible. I know furries are weird and all but I’ve met two furries recently and both of them were actually extremely friendly.

You seem like a very nice person and I'm glad you're more accepting in the fandom, but, yeah, it's only a small percentage of the, of the thingy, of the fandom that does that, and it's mostly the zoophiles and the pedophiles. So, yeah.

We’re having a big party! We dance, sing, play music, and have fun for 3 days. We also sell art and learn about things like comedy, acting, and public performance, since that’s why we wear the suits. It’s all an act! Like when you see a mascot at a football game, and they act silly. We do the same thing, but just on the streets. It makes people smile and laugh, even if it’s at US! We love it! Keep em smiling. It’s what our whole fandom is about. Making people happy!
