I would definitely choose wealth over poverty and those are the only concrete options whereas happy and sad are both temporary emotional states. Why would you choose poverty for a temporary emotional state?

At the end of the day, there's no such thing as being happy 100% of the time or sad 100% of the time. And as far as I see it, it's a lot easier to get happy than it is to get rich, so this is a no-brainer.

Let me also point out that if you are rich and sad and you feel like your sadness is due to your richness, then you can always sell all your stuff and become poor. Whereas it's a lot harder to just become rich if you're poor.
