report of question six. I said six is gay and lesbian, the right to attain a marriage license. It doesn't force the church clergy or anyone to marry them is a fair thing to do for all citizens in the state of Maryland to have the right to attain a marriage license. He also made frequent appearances on this program during his more than 10 years leading the NAACP branch in Prince George's County. Ross was 77 years old. Or just about all of us have had to recite the pledge of allegiance at some point, but the politics of the pledge can often lead to patriotic posturing. WHUR's Bramante Bryant has more in tonight's talk around town. On Wednesday, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz introduced an amendment that called for members of the House Judiciary Committee, of which he is a part, to recite the pledge of allegiance before the start of each committee meeting. Seemed like an innocuous measure set under the banner of patriotism until you put Gaetz' request under the microscope a bit. Gaetz and a number of other Republicans on the committee who supported the pledge amendment also voted not to certify Joe Biden's 2020 election. That no vote coming just a day after the January 6th Capitol riot. Not missing the irony, a Democrat on the Judiciary Committee proposed adding language to Representative Gaetz' amendment that read, quote, no one who participated in an insurrection could leave the committee in the pledge. Ultimately, the amendment unanimously passed after an hour long back and forth with the underlying discourse really centering on patriotism. What makes it ring true? Through your words or deeds? And are your words worth much if your deeds don't reflect them? The Judiciary Committee's pledge of allegiance debate will probably be long forgotten, but the seeming hypocrisy of it appears as if it will be with us for good while longer. I'm Vermont A. Bryant and that's the talk around town.
