So I've been hearing around about this scam that's going on and believe it or not in this day and age they happen and it's not regarding catfishing. Okay? So long story short it's about money and the way this money is received. Okay? So it's not even through dating apps either. It's people meeting online, in this case that I heard of, a gaming app and an online relationship forms and the other person says, hey, like, I need some money. I'm broke because, you know, I'm hungry. I need groceries or I need my rent paid or, you know, they make it sound like really desperate times. And obviously with what's going on in the last few years, like people are much more sensitive to these subjects, right? So you send the money over and then you come to find out, it's for their personal gain. They were never in trouble to begin with and they were just playing you. That blows my mind that that happens and knock on wood, I hope that doesn't happen to any one of us here because come on, like really, like I feel like we are getting money from a bad place, like, you know, what goes around comes around truthfully and that's just, it's like worse than stealing to me. It's like you're playing with someone's emotions and obviously their paycheck here.
A firm distinction must be drawn between someone whose money is legitimately stolen and someone who willingly and foolishly gives their money away. These types tend to have a maladaptive mindset that is specifically targeted. And this might be controversial to say, but it's what needs to be heard. If you willingly give your power away, then you are not a victim. You are a participant.
Kenny Weiss, W-E-I-S-S, has a pretty good video on YouTube about the Tinder Swindler that details this type of mindset that these people tend to have. Now I don't agree with everything he says, but his analysis is spot-on and it's what these people need to change to stop being targets.
