Hey guys, so today I want to talk really quick about how eating late at night does not make you gain body fat. And this is a pretty common thing that's talked about in the fitness world and it's always thrown around by people to give advice. But it doesn't matter what time of day you eat your food, you eat your calories, you can eat it early in the morning, you can eat it late at night. The only thing that makes you gain weight is an excess of calories and Not enough activity or working out to help balance out those calories. So You can eat late at night. I would say it's not the healthiest thing still to be doing Only because when we eat late at night and then we go to bed pretty soon after our body is processing the food So it takes a little bit to break it down so your body temperature rises and you just have Poor sleep quality. So that's really the only thing that happens when you eat late at night But yeah, it doesn't make you gain weight So I want to hear your thoughts about this in the comments and if anybody's ever told this to you.
It is obviously a myth that if you eat late it's going to make you gain weight what's important is about the quality of the food another time of the day you're having it
This is good this is good because I literally posted something about me eating late a couple days ago and I got mixed answers so I just have no choice but to eat late because I work out really late so I am but I usually sleep maybe two hours after eating so I think I'm still OK so yeah
Yeah, you most definitely won't gain weight from eating late at night and if you can't help it You know like that's not your fault Like I used to work a job where I would work late and then I'd have to come home and eat and that's what I had to do I had to eat late, but you should be good. Usually two hours. If you stop eating two hours before bed, you're set. You're fine
I'm so happy that you are shedding some light on this because you're absolutely right. It's definitely one of those big myths that people hear pretty frequently.
Especially in the US, like I don't know about other countries because I'm born and raised in the US But that's something like I've heard my entire life And then once you know I became a personal trainer and like figured out that's not how it works I was like, oh my god, I need to tell everybody that.
I agree Mallory I'm in school and I'm learning about basal metabolic rates and I do see in myself since working out for like five months consistently that mine has changed so yeah this is definitely not true because our bodies are hungry for reasons no matter what time of the day
Yeah, that's so true what you said about the basal metabolic rates and nobody, you know, thinks about that, especially hunger cues. Like, if you're hungry and your body is telling you hungry, I think you should, you know, kind of assess, you know, am I bored in the hungry and want to snack? But like, for the most part, when your body tells you you're hungry at certain times of the day, you need to be eating. it's not okay to like ignore those hunger cues.
Yes, this is a common misconception. I don't know where it originated from but I used to believe this until one of my friends told me that it's not true so low key surprised.
I think it does not apply to everyone. There are some people that could be more sensitive to gaining weight due to like their metabolism and if they have insulin resistance or not. So I think it depends on the person and their health.
Definitely does depends on the person, their metabolism and all of that. But a lot of people think that like just eating food late at night will make them gain weight. But that's just not true. But metabolism has to do a lot with all of that. But like if you eat cake at 8pm versus 8am, it's not going to make you gain any more weight, if that makes sense.
Well I would say the only way that it does is if you eat don't let your food digest would you like to eat and lay down and yeah you're gonna do you gonna start seeing some change in your weight
I agree that that's not healthy for you at all. Like it's not good for your sleep or anything. But even that still doesn't make you gain fat. If that makes sense. Like it's not good for you but it's not going to make you gain fat. I don't know how to describe it.
Yeah man Ian after like 10 pm whatever country you're in the arse and get me to gain weight man specially living in the UK that's how are actually went up to 94 kg and yeah I didn't help because I wasn't going gym et cetera but yeah if you eat after 10 pm yeah you're bound to be fat no matter what anyone says because you've Gotta get at least 23 hours for your body to digest food properly
I agree eating after like 10 or late is not healthy, but it doesn't make you gain weight. The only thing that makes you gain body fat is an excess of calories. So maybe at that time you were eating in excess and weren't working out. So that's probably why you gain the weight. But like if you ate cake at like 12pm versus 10pm, you're not going to gain any more body fat from that piece of cake. Does that make sense?
Hey guys, Naysim certified personal trainer here and I'm gonna have to agree with Laura Ortiz With her saying that it's not about what time you eat, but more so about the quality of the food that you're eating If you're gonna eat really late at night, I know somebody else said on here that they work out really late Just make sure that you are feeding yourself with a low glycemic meal. So that's gonna be one of your protein shakes or definitely just something low glycemic.
For me personally since I am trying to gain muscle and kind of lose the body fat am I am eating in a little bit of a surplus and just taken away do you know my my fat intake oh not taking away because we still need some but just really minimizing it and eating at night like right before bed definitely helps me like I get hungry right before I go to sleep so I just had me like a pro Tien shake or something
I have definitely heard of people saying that they eat like right before bed that like 30 minutes before bed I know a lady who did that and she was a pole fitness instructor so she literally worked out all day every day and had to eat all the time
