So tonight I hung out with my neighbors. One of them is in high school and I couldn't help it think back to the time that I first felt like an adult, which was when I was 16 and I got my driver's license. I felt on top of the world and I had this independence obviously with a car to drive around town and run errands. and I just felt so cool. And it had me thinking, okay, what's the first moment you felt like an adult? I would love to know.
The first time I felt like an adult I was in the military I had enlisted into the military and I was living away from my family and I was making my own decisions and going about my own life and it was kind of scary when I reflect on it I had no clue what I was doing but that's the first time I felt like an actual adult in the world and autonomous being
What you just said is really relatable in terms of being away from family and making your own life decisions because that is definitely an adulting point for many people. And you know myself, I was 18 when I moved to the other side of the state. I'm in California. And that was like right after high school and I felt like such an adult in that moment even though I was like brand new into the adult world. So, no, I get where you're coming from and I hope you're doing well.
When you start having those conversations with your family about your family, like the secrets of families and stuff like that, and you're like, they did that, they did that, that's when you feel like you're old enough to have those conversations and then you just feel like an adult.
I think the first time I actually felt like an adult was when I got my job and was actually on my own insurance. That's when I actually felt like oh my god I'm really an adult like I'm not on my mom and dad's insurance anymore you know. that was when I was like wow yep we're here we're the noodles
When I first felt like an adult when I started paying my own bills, I first felt like an adult when I had to start disciplining the kids in my family. Not my kids, but my relatives kids.
In my early 20s not ones like I always feel like a big ass overgrown kid anybody as I personally didn't feel like mental until I was married and I had you know another child not the man but I actually the child and I was making appointments for everybody and I remember when I was younger my mom made my appointments for me and I was like oh well damn on they don't know
Additionally for me it was when we moved into another neighborhood that wasn't a seat so I'm hyper aware of everything and when I had a noise in the kitchen and I put my head up my bedroom door my daughter pooped right at her door and we're looking at each other and I'm like yo what is that noise and I'm like oh I cannot send her up front to see what that noise was what is wrong with me I am the adult I'm the adult here I got to go find out what the fucking noise was Oh if I go to my dad what the fuck man
You know I was thinking about this like when do you have your first felt like an adult I've never felt like an adult I am 32 and I still feel like I'm like 15 I don't know if it's possible that like I have all these adult problems and adult things I deal with but at the end of the day I still feel like I'm a kid and I like I'm looking for adults to help me solve the problems
This is probably gonna sound kind a dumb but I felt like an adult when I got my first. I was around 12 when I got my period and I felt like oh my god this is such a big deal I'm finally grown up because I got my first. They are just in that moment I I do not feel like an adult right now even though I'm 19 but yeah felt like such a big deal at the time
Oh my goodness, no it does not sound dumb. Actually looking back I would definitely say something along those lines as well because I got that time of the month when I was in middle school so roughly around the same age so yeah it makes sense.
