This is a really great piece of advice that I wanted to share with my fellow parents and I feel like more people should know about. You need to freeze your child's credit line. So unfortunately we all know that there are scammers and con artists out there and they prey on parents specifically with young children. So however they do it, I don't know how they do it, but however they do they'll gain access to your child's social security numbers and then they open credit lines. They can even take out, I've heard crazy stories of children having mortgages or car payments. And then unfortunately, you have no idea that this is going on. And then when your child turns 18 and they say, you know, say they go get like, try and get a student loan or try and open their first credit card. And they have a 300 credit score and you're like, what the hell? Because they have all of these unpaid bills that aren't theirs. You know, unfortunately, someone stole their identity. And this happens way more than you would think. And people don't catch on because it sounds crazy to be thinking about your child's credit score and their credit line when they're a year old. But this is something that you should pay attention to. And I highly, highly, highly recommend that you call the credit bureau and freeze your child's credit line. You as the parent can unfreeze it whenever you would like. I plan to unfreeze my sons when he's a teenager to add him as an authorized user on one of my credit cards because I want to start off his credit early so that he has a good credit score. But freeze your child's credit line. I cannot stress this enough. All you have to do is call the credit bureau. There's definitely going to be some information you're going to need to provide to verify your identity and verify your child's identity and that you're their parent, but this is something you should definitely do.
