So today is the first day of senior level competition for the US figure skating championships and it reminded me of the case back in February where the US pairs champions Alexa Kneirim and Brandon Frazier were sued over their use of a song during the Olympics during competition this is a very little known crib who felt that NBC and the US figure skating association to pay them for you so the song let me well artist like Elton John and harry styles had no problem with the use of their song so what do you think is it OK for figure skaters to use songs or should they pay people first

They should definitely ask permission if it's not by a major company artist, right? Out of respect for the musician's craft, for sure. Stay spectacular.

Yeah honestly I don't know why anyone wouldn't ask for permission it seems a little selfish to kind of use music and not make sure to clear it with the artist first

And even if it wasn't a small label I mean they should still ask for permission to use it from a bigger artist it just will take longer but that's some thing they had to do if they really really wanted to use that music

The respect they will give to a major company for not wanting to get sued for using the artist's music, with the same respect they should give any other artist, that's what I meant.

I think they should ask but it’s really not that deep
