Putting yourself first is not a bad thing. People need to realize that it's like you, at the end of the day, you're the only person that's going to know you and what you've been through. You gotta be there for yourself.

I feel like I learned to become a better me when I realized if I stopped thinking about somebody and literally stop thinking they exist, they don't exist. They only exist like if I let them exist in my life.

Forgive and forget. Kids love you, they get upset with you or whatever, and then they forgive and forget. And they still love you unconditionally. If you hold on to that, you can never continue to love that person unconditionally because you never forgot what they did.
