I can't say I blame the elephant, um, depending on where this elephant is being seen at. Elephants do not trust humans in the wild for several reasons, main reason being poachers. So you know, she was standing way too close to a wild animal. So in a way, this is her fault. She should know boundaries.

People need to understand that we as humans have taken a lot away from Mother Nature herself, including different species of animal. And elephants have been poached, elephants have been destroyed, elephants have been, in some species of elephant, been put on the extinct list or the endangered list.
