Hey, what's up everybody? So pretty much today I want to talk about what certificate should I get and that is a question I get a lot when I'm in social spaces, especially when I tell people what I do for a living. I have been in IT for 20 years and I try to make it as simple as possible explain what I do day to day. But one of the questions that I normally get is, hey, I'm interested in getting into IT. What certifications should I be looking into? So when I get that question, the first thing I ask them is, well, what part of IT do you like? Right? So notice I didn't say love because I've noticed a lot of times with IT folks who code, who build databases, infrastructures, software development, applications, anything you can think of that equates to IT, they do it as a hobby, right? Because you love to do it. But they never want to do it as a job, right? So that's why I ask people, like, what do you like about What do you think something you might be able to get into, gain enough knowledge and be able to kind of routinely do it day to day? And once you gather that, then you know, email me, text me, let me know, and I can point you in the right direction on a good certification to start off with. So if you guys have any questions for me on certifications or what you like in IT, just let me know. My door is always open.

This is awesome and I'm wondering what your kind of view is on certification versus coursing and classes and that kind of thing, particularly one example I had in mind.

So some good friends of mine that I've known for a while that I work with still, they set up a company called Code Untapped, which is a limited course for minority founders, not minority, minority developers, and runs over I think six

Then at the end of it they try to help you get placement and so on but I'm not sure if that brings you certifications. So basically I guess I'm also wondering what kind of the power of certifications are. And I guess that depends, would that be correct to say?

Yeah, I know what you mean. IT is so broad, but I've got a degree in computer science. So I sort of have a fundamental understanding of coding and programming, and I do as a day-to-day of my job. So I feel like you gave some great advice.

Hey, Darden. Thanks for the reply. Try to put the guy a little bit of an IT professional panel, so people who are interested in the fields that we work in, they'll be able to ask questions of us and maybe go get the resources they need.

Yeah, most of the time when I'm out and meet people who are trying to break into IT, That's probably one of the first questions they asked me about is what certs do they need to take?

Because depending on where they want to work, what they want to do, with a lot of jobs here in the U.S., Sometimes a lot of employers are looking for those certifications, but most are looking for experience first.

Oh, dang, uh, this isn't technology, huh? I mean, it- what I have isn't techno- Oh, it kinda is, but not really. Um, I mean, uh, but I'll say it here anyway. Sterile processing technician. That is where you can sterilize and clean surgical instruments and medical equipment. Um, if this is just not up your alley, understandable. Just, hey, it's out there.
