Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with @therochasays!

For our final highlight for Hispanic Heritage Month we have @therochasays! John is a movie critic that celebrates his Hispanic heritage through his perspectives and coverage of movies and pop culture. He’s proud of his culture, and highlights the importance of Hispanic representation in film and television.

What is your favorite part of being active in the Stereo community?

The interaction with our listeners. We've created a multicultural community of fans and it's always great to hear their opinions in real time about whatever we are covering on our shows and to catch up with them personally about their lives.

Does your Hispanic Heritage impact the content you create on Stereo, and if so, how?

It allows me to offer a different perspective to the content we cover than the white experience or black experience might offer. Certain themes like immigration and the desire to belong in a new community are big in our culture and Man of Steel is a prime example of that experience. Also, pointing out how Hispanic characters are presented in these comic book movies or sci-fi films is a point of analysis for me.

What recurring Stereo shows do you do?

The MCU Rewatch Show with The Outlaws on Saturdays at 4pm PT

What do you hope listeners get out of/take away from your talks?

A new perspective on how to look at these films or TV shows from both my point of view as a Latino, but also from my co-host's POV who is a woman and half Native American and half white. I also hope they appreciate our analysis regardless of our heritage on the bigger themes in these films and TV shows.

How do you celebrate your Hispanic heritage year round and/or how can others celebrate it year round?

Well, yeah. Going to festivals or events to see more of other Latin cultures. Talking to my family and friends about our Hisapnic heritage.

Why do you feel it's important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage?

Because we matter. So much of what happens in this country would not happen without Latinos. We do a lot of the working in jobs that many people think is beneath them. We serve people at fundraisers who rail against illegal immigration as they're being served their dinner and drinks by a possibly illegal immigrant that the hotel has hired on the cheap. We have also sparked a lot of innovation in all kinds of industries from medicine to technology. We've also inspired so many with our greatest authors, actors, and creators.

What's your favorite part about your Hispanic Heritage?

Oh I think just feeling that uniqueness of perspective on the world. We are a fun, loving and passionate people who like to see the world for what it is and what it can be. I like feeling connected to our people who have been around for centuries and who have such rich traditions in so many areas of our culture. I also enjoy how unique and different we can be from our language to our traditions to our music to our dances to our approaches to the world.

What do you love most about Stereo?

The convenience of how easy it is to get started and to immediately be connected to a listener base that enjoys interacting with you. It's great!

Don’t miss the MCU Rewatch Show with The Outlaws with @therochasays Saturdays at 4pm PT!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with @jay_sizzal!

There’s no better way to honor your past than with celebrations like Hispanic Heritage Month - and our next #VoiceOnStereo is all about it! Meet @jay_sizzal, he’s not only an active member of the Stereo community, but he’s always open to creating different talks from hip hop shows and finance reviews, to sports and anime. He thinks it’s important to celebrate his Hispanic heritage because it’s not only part of who he is, but helps him connect with the community around the world.

What is your favorite part of being active in the Stereo community?

Being able to build relationships with people who have similar interests. Whether that be host to listener or vice versa, the ability to use a platform to interact socially is what keeps me active.

Does your Hispanic Heritage impact the content you create on Stereo, and if so, how?

Of course it does! I am Stereo’s only official Takuache! I feel a strong responsibility to impact the community just how it is impacted on a larger scale within the U.S.A. It is very noticeable that the world has really taken a liking into Hispanic and specifically Latin American culture with respect to music/fashion/arts etc. and with Stereo being another social media platform, my content will always derive from the day to day things I like and see. I pride myself in being able to take content from around the world and seeing it through the lense of the trokiando community known as the Takuaches. SHEEESH!

What recurring Stereo shows do you do?

In the past, I’ve done live hip hop freestyle shows, some finance review shows, some health & wellness interviews, would you rather shows, and other sports analysis shows pertaining to whatever is in season at the moment. My co-host and I, @sourcandyappplez, have also spoken about the current state of anime and what we are currently watching. Those were very fun because of our chemistry. As a listener I am a part of the SportsOnStereo family where I bring my particular takes on West Coast sports with Los Angeles specifics. Those sports shows in particular have been on for almost a year straight every Sunday and I am proud of our community for being so consistent.

What do you hope listeners get out of/take away from your talks?

I hope listeners come to see the world from my point of view. I’ve always been a bit of a renaissance man myself and have always had a wide range of interests. I can speak to anyone. Listeners can learn things from a style never heard from before.

How do you celebrate your Hispanic heritage year round and/or how can others celebrate it year round?

Year round I celebrate by not being ashamed of speaking Spanish and/or listening to Spanish music on VERY loud. I think others can help celebrate by realizing that we are not so different from other cultures. Finding the similarities between others and ourselves helps bring us together and teaches others in a way that can really hit home. This way, not only is Hispanic and Latin American culture understood, but we ourselves understand other cultures as well.

Why do you feel it's important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage?

I think it's most important to not only look to our past and where we came from, but where we are going. Looking to the past helps us learn but if we don’t look forward we can’t see where we are going. Teaching the youth of traditions is important, but embracing the youth’s perspective I believe is even more important to help keep our culture alive and always evolving.

What's your favorite part about your Hispanic Heritage?

My favorite part is our food, music, and style! The diversity between Hispanic cultures as a whole is beautiful. But when you have multiple different countries dancing to one song, that is magical. I love how we eat spicy foods, and how we have our own unique approach to fashion and other artistic passions.

What do you love most about Stereo?

Stereo is a great place for people of all backgrounds to come together and share a place where anyone is welcome. With Stereo, I believe there is a real blueprint on how we can truly interact and move away from centralized forms of entertainment. It gives power to the people!

Don’t miss Applez & Takuaches with @jay_sizzal and @sourcandyapplez tonight at 9:05 PM ET!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with @m_spectacular!

We’ve got another great Hispanic Heritage Month spotlight with @m_spectacular! She’s an awesome creator in the Stereo community with many weekly talks that highlight her culture and how it’s made her who she is today. Find out more about all the ways she celebrates her Hispanic heritage all year round!

What is your favorite part of being active in the Stereo community?

The accessibility to engage with others from all over the world. There are lots of fun topics to talk about. We all gain understanding from different points of view.

Does your Hispanic Heritage impact the content you create on Stereo, and if so, how?

My parents, born and raised in Puerto Rico, decided on raising their children in New York. I love the diversity and maybe it’s due to my bloodline. Culture is more than just the way people practice their traditions, it's completely a way of life communication and values that shape up how we live. Maybe it’s the Spice or the tone of my voice that impacts my listeners (laughs).

What recurring Stereo shows do you do?

  • Monday Sorta 5AM with LaurenAngel
  • M&M in the morning with MillyJay_Green
  • Facts on Facts with King_Gio
  • Fight Club with Dr.DiamondP
  • Also, random solos/join with other content creators.

What do you hope listeners get out of/take away from your talks?

I would love for those who are listeners to have a good time tuning in. Sharing an enjoyable time of laughter is always my drive. I’d like for everyone to feel inspired somehow and want to return to join along next time I’m on.

How do you celebrate your Hispanic heritage year round and/or how can others celebrate it year round?

Celebrating heritage throughout the year is a wonderful thing. I play music, sew, do art, dance around and cook together with my daughters. I’d suggest expressing yourself freely and learning to find similarities in other cultures as well!

Why do you feel it's important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage?

Providing a space and time every now and then to embrace us spanish-speaking descendants to teach, learn and keep alive our cultural history is beautiful.

What's your favorite part about your Hispanic Heritage?

Family gatherings. The joy of salsa Music, the food smells and creations.

What do you love most about Stereo?

I love being on this app as a content creator because we as the host have an audience that have the options of tuning for just a listen in as they would a radio station/podcast AND/OR they join along with the interaction feature by leaving comments at real time. This fuels the talks so much more and keeps the engagement of our community. Stereo also has our catalog of audio all set up in minutes!
