There’s no better way to honor your past than with celebrations like Hispanic Heritage Month - and our next #VoiceOnStereo is all about it! Meet @jay_sizzal, he’s not only an active member of the Stereo community, but he’s always open to creating different talks from hip hop shows and finance reviews, to sports and anime. He thinks it’s important to celebrate his Hispanic heritage because it’s not only part of who he is, but helps him connect with the community around the world.
What is your favorite part of being active in the Stereo community?
Being able to build relationships with people who have similar interests. Whether that be host to listener or vice versa, the ability to use a platform to interact socially is what keeps me active.
Does your Hispanic Heritage impact the content you create on Stereo, and if so, how?
Of course it does! I am Stereo’s only official Takuache! I feel a strong responsibility to impact the community just how it is impacted on a larger scale within the U.S.A. It is very noticeable that the world has really taken a liking into Hispanic and specifically Latin American culture with respect to music/fashion/arts etc. and with Stereo being another social media platform, my content will always derive from the day to day things I like and see. I pride myself in being able to take content from around the world and seeing it through the lense of the trokiando community known as the Takuaches. SHEEESH!
What recurring Stereo shows do you do?
In the past, I’ve done live hip hop freestyle shows, some finance review shows, some health & wellness interviews, would you rather shows, and other sports analysis shows pertaining to whatever is in season at the moment. My co-host and I, @sourcandyappplez, have also spoken about the current state of anime and what we are currently watching. Those were very fun because of our chemistry. As a listener I am a part of the SportsOnStereo family where I bring my particular takes on West Coast sports with Los Angeles specifics. Those sports shows in particular have been on for almost a year straight every Sunday and I am proud of our community for being so consistent.
What do you hope listeners get out of/take away from your talks?
I hope listeners come to see the world from my point of view. I’ve always been a bit of a renaissance man myself and have always had a wide range of interests. I can speak to anyone. Listeners can learn things from a style never heard from before.
How do you celebrate your Hispanic heritage year round and/or how can others celebrate it year round?
Year round I celebrate by not being ashamed of speaking Spanish and/or listening to Spanish music on VERY loud. I think others can help celebrate by realizing that we are not so different from other cultures. Finding the similarities between others and ourselves helps bring us together and teaches others in a way that can really hit home. This way, not only is Hispanic and Latin American culture understood, but we ourselves understand other cultures as well.
Why do you feel it's important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage?
I think it's most important to not only look to our past and where we came from, but where we are going. Looking to the past helps us learn but if we don’t look forward we can’t see where we are going. Teaching the youth of traditions is important, but embracing the youth’s perspective I believe is even more important to help keep our culture alive and always evolving.
What's your favorite part about your Hispanic Heritage?
My favorite part is our food, music, and style! The diversity between Hispanic cultures as a whole is beautiful. But when you have multiple different countries dancing to one song, that is magical. I love how we eat spicy foods, and how we have our own unique approach to fashion and other artistic passions.
What do you love most about Stereo?
Stereo is a great place for people of all backgrounds to come together and share a place where anyone is welcome. With Stereo, I believe there is a real blueprint on how we can truly interact and move away from centralized forms of entertainment. It gives power to the people!
